Thomas Ender
Thomas Ender (1793–1875) was an Austrian landscape painter and watercolorist, best known for his detailed and picturesque depictions of the Austrian Alps and his travels to Brazil. Born in Vienna, Ender studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and gained early recognition for his landscape watercolors. In 1817, Ender was part of the Austrian expedition to Brazil, where he created numerous watercolors documenting the Brazilian landscape, flora, and fauna.
Ender’s works are known for their precision and delicate handling of light and color, often capturing the majesty of natural scenes with an almost scientific attention to detail. He became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and continued to travel and paint throughout his life. Ender’s works are housed in various European collections, including the Albertina in Vienna.
