Severin Nilsson
Severin Nilsson (1846–1918) was a Swedish painter and photographer, known for his landscapes and depictions of rural life in Sweden. Born in Asige, Halland, Nilsson studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and later traveled to Paris, where he was influenced by the Barbizon school and French realism. His paintings often captured the serene beauty of the Swedish countryside, with a focus on the natural light and the everyday activities of rural communities.
Nilsson was also an accomplished photographer, using the medium to document Swedish rural life and the changing landscape. His work in both painting and photography played a significant role in capturing the essence of Sweden’s natural environment during a period of significant social and industrial change. His works are held in Swedish museums, including the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm.
