Per Ekström
Per Ekström (1844–1935) was a Swedish landscape painter renowned for his masterful depictions of light, particularly in his sun-drenched landscapes of the Swedish countryside. Born in the village of Segerstad on the island of Öland, Ekström studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. He spent time in Paris, where he was influenced by the French Barbizon School, known for its naturalistic approach to landscape painting.
Ekström became known as the "Sun Painter" due to his focus on capturing the effects of light at different times of day, particularly during dawn and dusk. His works often feature broad, atmospheric skies, bathed in soft, luminous light. Today, Ekström is considered one of Sweden's most important landscape painters, and his works are held in major collections such as the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and the Göteborgs Konstmuseum.
