Gustav Palm
Gustav Wilhelm Palm (1810–1890) was a Swedish landscape painter and one of the most prominent figures in Swedish 19th-century art. Born in Stockholm, Palm trained at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. He became known for his detailed and atmospheric depictions of Mediterranean landscapes, particularly from his travels in Italy and Egypt. His works are marked by a strong sense of light and composition, often focusing on the interplay between architecture and natural scenery.
Palm was one of the first Swedish painters to spend significant time in Italy, and his works reflect the influence of Italian landscape painting and the Grand Tour tradition. He was a professor at the Royal Swedish Academy, where he influenced a generation of Swedish artists. His works are now held in major Swedish collections, including the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm.
