Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso (1887–1918) was a pioneering Portuguese modernist painter whose work combined elements of Cubism, Futurism, and Expressionism, making him one of the most innovative and influential artists of his time. Born in Mancelos, Portugal, Souza-Cardoso initially studied architecture in Lisbon before moving to Paris in 1906 to pursue a career in painting. In Paris, he immersed himself in the avant-garde circles, associating with leading artists like Amedeo Modigliani, Constantin Brâncuși, and Robert Delaunay, whose experimentation and radical styles greatly influenced his own work.
