Alexander Harrison
Alexander Harrison (1853–1930) was an American painter known for his marine and coastal landscapes. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Harrison studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and later traveled to Paris, where he attended the École des Beaux-Arts. Harrison was heavily influenced by French Naturalism and the Barbizon School, and he became associated with the American expatriate community in France. His works are characterized by their soft, atmospheric qualities, often depicting serene seascapes and tranquil shorelines. Harrison exhibited widely in France, winning numerous awards and accolades. Today, his works are housed in institutions such as the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
