Mary Yerkes
Mary Yerkes (1872–1954) was an American artist known for her landscape paintings, particularly her depictions of the American West. Born in Pennsylvania, Yerkes was largely self-taught, and she developed a deep connection to the natural landscapes of the American Southwest and the Rocky Mountains. Her works often focus on the interplay between light and shadow in vast, open spaces, capturing the grandeur and tranquility of the wilderness. Yerkes was a member of several art associations, including the Society of Women Painters and Sculptors, and she exhibited her work widely throughout her life.
Although not as widely known as some of her contemporaries, Yerkes played an important role in the early 20th-century American landscape painting tradition. Her works are found in private collections and regional museums, particularly in the western United States.
