Kitty Kielland
Kitty Lange Kielland (1843–1914) was a Norwegian painter best known for her atmospheric landscapes, particularly of the Jæren region in Norway. Born in Stavanger, Kielland was one of the first women in Norway to pursue a professional career as a painter. She studied in Karlsruhe and later in Munich, where she was influenced by the plein air style of painting. Her works often feature marshlands and barren landscapes, capturing the wild beauty of Norway with a subtle yet powerful sense of realism and mood.
Kielland was a pioneer for women in the arts, playing a significant role in opening doors for female artists in Norway. She exhibited widely throughout Europe, and her works are now part of major collections in Norway, including the National Museum in Oslo.
